Peter George Snell was born December,17,1938 in opunake New Zea land he had a very successful running carrier a protege of legendary New Zeland track coach Arthur Lydiard.
Snell won three three Olympic Gold medal. At the age of 19 after trying and playing many sports RUGBY, CRICKET and TENNIS Snell was motivated to try more seriously at running by the comments of his future coach Arthur Lydiard at the mile.
Snell being usually large(by track standard) and powerful built hinted of great things to come . In the 1960 Olympics he won a gold medal and set a new world record in the 800m. in the 1964 Olympics he won gold and set a new world record in the 800m and won gold in the 1500m in all over his short carrier he set five individual world record.
In 1965 at the peak of his carrier he shock new zeland and the track world by announcing his retirement.After working for a while in New Zeland Snell moved to the U S A, Texas where he got his BS in human performance then his PHd in exercise Physiology he then join University of Texas south western medical center at Dallas as a research fellow in 1981 and became the director of the human performance center.
